    looking for tips to supplement our food while cruising in French Polynesia next May (2013). There will be four of us on board a Pajot Athena 38 CAT. This is a low-key 25th anniversary cruise, so we’re mostly going to be in the lagoons. We’re chartering the boat, so I was wondering if I could get by with light hand-held jigging for small fish. I am also wondering about shellfish and lobster. Thanks much!

      I haven’t done much inshore fishing in the South Pacific largely because of ciguatera poisoning. There are plenty of fish that are safe to eat but you really should check with the locals first. I wrote a book which teaches in detail how to fish from a sailboat titled Fishing To Live. In the meantime you can check out some of my how to fishing videos at:
