Leaving Puerto Rico at first light, finally.

It has taken longer than expected to prep the boat to leave & I found a cracked part in the mast’s gooseneck fitting on Saturday so we had to wait until today to get the part welded.

In the morning we’ll leave for St. Thomas.  We plan to be moored & swimming in Christmas Cove by sundown.  I am looking forward to getting back to St. Thomas & catching up with all my friends there.

We are going to explore the Us & British Virgin islands for a couple of weeks then head toward Florida.

I’m having trouble getting my pictures to upload but I’ll have new pictures up by the weekend.

Made it to Puerto Rico

I’m about to fall asleep enjoying a balmy breeze, after a day of small projects, getting to know the owners, & provisioning for the trip.

I flew into San Juan last night & the owners of the boat picked me up at the airport & then took me for a steak dinner to get acquainted, before driving to the marina in Fajardo where they’ve kept the boat for the last year.

There are a few projects to complete & we’re waiting on a couple of packages in the mail & then its off to Culebra & Vieques for a few days before heading over to St. Thomas, where hopefully I’ll be able to catch up with friends.  Then we’ll explore the US & British Virgin Islands before heading North.

Once we leave the Virgin Islands the plan is to island hop to the Gulf coast of Florida where the boat will be put up for sale.  The tentative plan is to stop in the Dominican Republic, Turks & Caicos, Bahamas & possibly Cuba.

I’ll keep you posted & start putting up pictures tomorrow.

Improved sailing books page

I’ve updated & improved the books page. There is an extensive list of books that have actually been read, reviewed & recommended for sailors by sailors (most I’ve read myself). Books every sailor needs, the best sailing books for the Kindle & books for killing time on passage.
