A few more days of shore leave

We’ve been out sailing & I’ve been showing the owners some of the best anchorages on St. John.  A few days of shaking down the boat led to a list of small projects & I’ve been going over the rigging with a fine tooth comb getting it tuned & ready to go anywhere.  I expect we’ll be around St. Thomas for 2 or 3 days then its off to explore the BVI’s.

The end of my shore leave

I sailed with the owners of S/V Limbo from Fajardo to St. Thomas last Tuesday & I’ve been on shore leave since then.  Its been fun, I’ve been catching up w/ friends & enjoying more than my fair share of Cruzan rum (I really forgot just how strong they mix drinks here!).

We had a few  problems on the sail from Fajardo that reinforced, in my mind, that the boat needs some refit work before heading off on a long passage.  I talked with the owners & they were in agreement about the things needed to prep the boat. Then we discussed whether or not they even wanted to sail to Florida.  They were basically taking the boat to Florida to sell.  After talking some more & doing some research they decided it would be better to refit the boat & sell it here.

The new plan is I’ll be doing some refit work on the boat & prepping it to be sold while we spend a few weeks cruising the US Virgin Islands & the British Virgin Islands.  After they get tired of the crystal clear water, calm anchorages & great snorkeling they’ll fly home & I’ll help them sell the boat.  I’ll be flying back to Las Vegas by mid March because the friends I live with are buying a new house & we’re moving.

I’ll most likely be flying back to St. Thomas by May 1st to watch over, do additional refit work & sell S/V Limbo.

S/V Limbo is a solid Morgan designed 46′ HYC cutter rigged sloop that the owners have spent the last 14 years cruising the world on, she just needs a little TLC.  The boat has a lot of great equipment & will make a good blue water cruiser for someone to set off on.

I’ll post some updates, as we get to spend the next couple weeks visiting some of my favorite anchorages, & I’ll try to include as many pictures as possible.  I’ll alsoo be posting a bunch of pictures of S/V Limbo.  She has her own webpage @ Limbosailing.com

Police V.I Lottery

Police V.I Lottery

Saw this police woman in the Post office today while running errands.  I’m not sure if this means the police here are advertising the V.I. lottery or we have a lottery police.  Either way it’s a little odd.

Great to be back on St. Thomas

I had a great time yesterday & today catching up w/ all of my friends here.  We went out last night for live music at Latitude 18 & had a bit too much rum.  The boat is moored in Christmas Cove in the lee of Great St. James island for a few days while I’m on shore leave.
